Here Comes The Judge!

Compliance Perspectives: Here Comes the Judge!

One of the most tricky challenges facing Learning & Development professionals is the growing role of Compliance and Regulatory Training and Learning requirements.  In some fields, almost 70% of learning hours are mandated by compliance codes or internal risk avoidance policies.

I thought it would be great to add the perspectives of a senior Judge to this conversation.  And, one of my lifelong friends and colleagues, Frank Maas, has just retired as a Federal Magistrate Judge in the Southern District of New York.

Judge Maas will share his unique perspectives on how we navigate the world of regulation, compliance and deal with varied types of advice and pressure on how best to approach compliance and regulation - with an intent to stay legal, safe and sane in our learning models.  He will be featured at one of our General Sessions and also available to chat with learning leaders about this often misunderstood topic.

Melissa Daimler, Twitter's Chief Learning Officer, will share the rapidly shifting approaches to Performance Review, Learning and Employee Development at Twitter and other high-tech innovators. Melissa will be a Keynoter at Learning 2016!

Integrating interests in learning, coaching, and organizational dynamics into a career, Melissa currently heads the Global Learning & Organizational Development team . She joined in 2012 with a mission to not only develop great leaders, but great people. For Twitter’s 4,000 employees worldwide, her team executes on management, leadership, team & professional development, executive coaching, organizational consulting & talent development planning. Her team leverages the principles of the Twitter platform (public, real-time, conversational & distributed) when designing any learning experience for employees.

Prior to joining Twitter, Melissa headed the Global Learning and Organizational Consulting team at Adobe Systems.  She also built an executive coaching company focused on coaching early-career executives.

She is also a board member for the Association of Talent Development (ATD) and sits on the Advisory Board for the University of San Francisco, MSOD program. One of the first coaches certified by the International Coach Federation, Melissa graduated from Pepperdine University with a M.S. in Organizational Development.

Melissa can regularly be found learning golf, sailing or skiing somewhere in California with her husband. You can follow her on Twitter

A co-founder of the Auto-ID Center at MIT, Sarma developed many of the key technologies behind the EPC suite of RFID standards now used worldwide. He was the founder and CTO of OATSystems, which was acquired by Checkpoint Systems (NYSE: CKP) in 2008, and he has worked at Schlumberger Oilfield Services in Aberdeen, UK, and at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories in Berkeley, California.

Scott Kelly - Astronaut!

So, why did Elliott Masie pick Capt. Scott Kelly as one of our Learning 2016 Keynoters?

  • Elliott dreamed of being an Astronaut as a kid - what a thrill to interview Scott Kelly!
  • The art and science of being an astronaut blends technology and curiosity.  Wow!
  • Let's explore how one "learns" from deep in space.
